The four of us are currently seniors in the Composite Materials Engineering program at WSU. We share a love for sports and outdoor adventures, which is why we were quite excited to work on this project together. Scroll down to learn a little more about each of us!

Sara
Sara Johnson 

Hometown: Fridley, MN 

Hobbies: Rock Climbing, Reading, Cooking, and Woodworking

Plans After Graduation: I will be getting my PhD in Polymer Science and Engineering (or related field) and then hopefully will be working in the R&D sector of a medical device company.

Fun Fact: After graduating high school I backpacked through South America for 4 months!

Joseph Garber

Hometown: Whitefish Bay, WI 

Hobbies: Rock climbing, running, motorcycling

Plans After Graduation: Start a family and get my PhD!

Fun Fact: I visited Cuba in 2016.  

Grace
Grace Tobin 

Hometown: North Mankato, MN 

Hobbies: I love watching and then quoting movies, dancing, and camping, specifically sitting around the campfire.

Plans After Graduation: I am going to graduate school to get a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering. I hope to one day teach engineering/math.

Fun Fact: I have been dancing for 19 years, and, while at WSU, I was captain of the Hip Hop team for two years. I am also ambidextrous.

Lucas Derbyshire 

Hometown: Winona, MN 

Hobbies: Biking, Fly Fishing, Playing Guitar, Sewing, and Cooking

Plans After Graduation: I would like to gain experience in composite part design at an outdoor sporting goods company, especially in the cycling or watersports industries. Afterwards, I will return to school to get a PhD in Engineering with the intention of becoming a professor and helping educate and encourage the next generation of students!

Fun Fact: I shook Richard Simmon’s hand in the LAX Airport when I was 17!
