What are we all about?

Grub Street provides a social service to all those who are interested in English at Winona State University. Primarily, Grub Street hosts social gatherings for students to express their creativity. Among these are open microphone nights at local coffee shops, poetry slams, select topic professor lead discussions, and Q&A sessions regarding English topics (such as publication and writing techniques). Grub Street also sponsors parties for students and faculty interested in English. Grub Street sponsors a spring trip each year where we travel to meet authors and attend non-local events.
Grub Street is open to all University Students and affiliates regardless of major. Anyone who enjoys English is welcome to join the club or attend Grub Street's sponsored events.

Why is it called "Grub Street?"
…Because some hacks lived on Grub Street (now Milton Street) in London. Since the 18th century, “Grub Street" has meant either the “tribe” of poor writers living there or the qualities that characterized them. “Grub Street” poets were bitterly attacked by the Pope, and “Grub Street” has been used contemptuously by Samuel Johnson, Byron, and others to suggest trash.
